IN a move to develop young tennis stars in Nigeria, a legal practitioner, Babatunde Fashanu, SAN, has called on corporate organizations and individuals to sponsor Tennis tournaments that would bring about home grown stars.

Fashanu made the call at the 3rd Alhaja Taslimat Memorial Fahanu memorial Tennis Classics held recently at the Lagos Country Club.

According to him; “The main purpose of tournament is to encourage Nigerian youths to be able to go for bigger tournaments in the world. Its paramount to build Nigerian youths that would represent the nation for future Olympics and even Wimbledon tournaments in England.

Corporate organizations and individuals should emulate such gestures in other tennis clubs and states across the country to develop more talents nationwide. We all saw what Nigerian participants in the last Olympics went through.

It’s a clear indication that we don’t have to depend on the government alone to revive our sport, countries that usually perform well at the Olympics do so with the government coming in as a regulatory body.
