The police on Tuesday arraigned Vitalis Chijionwa of Kuje, Abuja, in a Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court for cheating and criminal intimidation.

Chijionwa is standing trial on a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, cheating by impersonation and criminal intimidation.

The Prosecutor, David Abeh, told the court that Ata Andrew of Durumi reported the matter at the Durumi Police Station on July 11.

He said that sometime in December 2015, the complainant entrusted N400, 000 to the defendant and another, now at large, for a plot of land located at Pikoyi village, Kuje, Abuja.

Abeh said after the complainant started to develop the plot, the defendant came to the plot on July 9 in Army uniform and threatened the complainant.

He said that the defendant threatened to deal with the complainant if he did not leave the plot of land.

Abeh said the offences contravened sections 97, 312, 322 and 397 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

Senior Magistrate, Nuhu Tukur, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N300, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Tukur said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case till Aug. 11 for hearing.
