Players and officials of Rovers Football Club of Calabar were at the mercy of a 15-man armed robbery gang Friday night as they were on their way to Omoku, Rivers state to honour a National League game against Go Round FC of Omoku.
Technical Director of the club, Etta Egbe told Sports Vanguard that the incident which happened at about 8 pm at Omoku-Port Harcourt Road, saw the bus conveying the players attacked by the robbers who were brandishing dangerous weapons including AK 47 riffles, cutlasses among others.

“They carted away all the bags that contained players personal effects which included their playing kits, jewelries and other prized items,”Egbe said.
He however said apart from the driver and the chief coach who were manhandled and ended up with some bruises, there were no major injuries.
