SOKOTO—AS the country continues to grapple with desertification in some northern states, the Director General, National Agency for Great Green Wall, NAGGW, Goni Ahmed, said dry land agricultural practices by residents in the affected areas will combat the menace.
The Head, Press and Public Relation of the agency Larai Dazi, Ahmed made the assertion during a capacity Assessment Workshop on Action Against Desertification, AAD, in Sokoto, Sokoto State, under the Great Green Wall project in collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Organization, FAO.
Ahmed said Great Green Wall programme has tremendously impacted communities, following its importance to rural families.
He said the programme was designed to improve the sustainability, integration and adaptability of dry land agricultural practices.
Ahmed maintained that livestock and fisheries, promote commercialization and marketing of agricultural products, enhance accessibility of farmers, pastoralists and other land users to agricultural inputs, increase security and accessibility to basic resources by affected people especially women among others.
