Osinbajo tasks LGs on efficiency

Jos—The Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has tasked local government administration in the country to promote greater efficiency in the provision of local services, transform lives of the people at the grassroots and facilitate integration of the national political system.

Osinbajo observed that the third tier of government had been challenged by problem of inefficiency and corruption, which projected it as a weak model for good governance.

The Vice President, who threw the challenge at the opening ceremony of a two-day national workshop organized by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, in collaboration with Daily Trust Newspapers in Jos, lamented that the local government system had unfortunately become a source of grave concern to the federal government, stressing that efforts were being made to intensify it.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Career Management, Office of the Head of Office, Ogbonnaya Innocent, the VP said the fundamental goal of local government remained the acceleration of development at the grassroots level.

According to him, the Federal Government is determined to support efficiency in local government administration and strengthen their operational capacities.,
