UGHELLI—NIGER Delta-based activist and national coordinator of Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, Sheriff Mulade, has carpeted the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, over his recommendation for the scrapping of Maritime University, Okrenkoko, Delta State.

Charging the Federal Government to commence construction at the university, Mulade, yesterday, at Ughelli, described the recommendation by the minister as an advice given in bad faith.

Urging the Federal Government to do the needful by retracing its steps and resume work at the university site, he maintained that the claims by Amaechi that work on the site was not reflective of a feasibility study, shows that the minister was out of touch with realities on the university.

Appealing to the Federal Government to send an independent body to visit the institution for an assessment of extent of work done, Mulade said: “We believe that scrapping of the maritime university is not in the interest of the Niger Delta region.”
