Clerics urge govts to alleviate suffering of masses

LAGOS—CHRISTIANS yesterday celebrated the resurrection of the progenitor of Christianity, regarded as the hallmark of the Christian faith as they trooped to churches with several clerics charging Nigerians to draw inspirations from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and love and forgive one another for the progress and development of the nation.

The clergymen used the occasion to call on President Muhammadu Buhari and all state governors to sacrifice their personal egos and forge a common front to make life better for the masses whom they have been elected to serve.

In different Easter messages, the clerics advised Nigerians to shun selfishness but rather be prepared to live for others, love one another and embrace peace.

Praying that the country will regain her position in the committee of nations, they were unanimous in their belief that the resurrection of Jesus Christ assures us victory over sin, Satan, economic adversity, assuring us that in spite of our present difficulties and challenges, Nigeria will bounce back to glory, viability and back to giant of Africa that God had made it to be.”

They also noted that the present administration has a lot to do, hence, the need for cooperation among those elected in various leadership positions.

At the Methodist Church of Nigeria, the Prelate, Dr. Samuel Kanu Uche joined all well meaning Nigerians in the campaign against the proposed Kaduna State Religious Bill, seeking to regulate preaching activities in the state.

Berating Gov El-Rufai
Berating the action of Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai at the Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu Square, Lagos during the Easter Sunday service, the Prelate said it is disheartening that the governor is busy chasing religious bill when there are other important issues that needed to be tackled in the state.

Nigerians urged to pray for peace
Calling on Nigerians not to relent in praying for peace and progress of the country and those in leadership positions, the Anglican Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Most Rev. Ephraim Ademowo while delivering his Easter Sunday sermon at Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, said Nigerians should have hope in the country as there is light and hope for a better tomorrow.

One time Vice President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and presiding bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, TREM, Dr. Mike Okonkwo also urged Buhari administration to declare a state of emergency in the nation’s petroleum sector of and make the product readily available in every nook and cranny of the nation to quickly revamp the ailing national economy.

Okonkwo on reconciliation
Speaking after an Easter service where adherents were told to love one another, Bishop Okonkwo urged fellow Christian leaders to reconcile their differences which arose from the last elections and forge ahead.

Okonkwo also used the occasion to call on the security apparatus of the Federal Government to do everything within its powers to secure the unconditional release of the three leaders of TEKAN/ECWA adopted last Monday along Abuja-Kaduna while inspecting an ongoing construction project in preparation for the Easter celebration.
