Following the killings at Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos State, between Yoruba and Hausa traders, there was anxiety in some parts of Ogun State yesterday over the possibility of reprisal attacks.

But, the   Ogun State Police Command , has  debunked the   rumour making the rounds that there was violence between the Yoruba and Hausa community in Ogere area of the state.

The command, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer , Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the news as baseless and untrue.

The statement read,” The attention of the Ogun State police command has been drawn to a rumour in circulation that there is an ethnic clash between Yoruba and Hausa in Ogere,Ogun State.

“The command wishes to debunk the rumour.   Such news is baseless and not true.”

Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the Command is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure peaceful co-existence among tribes in the state.

He added that the  state  Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Ali, had   urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and go about their lawful businesses.

“All hands   have been on deck to maintain   the peaceful coexistence we enjoy   in the state,” the statement said.
