UDU—Concerned Members for Peace in Ogbe-Ijoh Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, has appealed to the state government to urgently implement the recommendations of the commission of inquiry set up to look into the land dispute between Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities to forestall a re-occurrence of another crisis in both communities.

Recounting the 1996 communal clash between the two communities that led to loss of lives and property on both sides, coordinator of the group, Friday Denighan, while lamenting the renewed hostilities by some youths from one of the communities, appealed to security operatives in the area to be watchful over the activities of the youths.

According to him, “to forestall another crisis in both communities, the attention of relevant authorities is hereby drawn to the continuous blockade and other criminal activities being perpetrated on the only access road leading to Ogbe-Ijoh town which is the headquarters of Warri South-West council.

“The peace pact signed by representatives of both communities at Government House, Asaba, on March 3, 2015 should be maintained for the overall development of both communities.

“But the blockade of the road and toll collection by some youths from one of the communities is an invitation to violence.”
