Lagos— Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State will be launching the state’s official campaign against child molesters tagged “Lagos State End Violence Against Children Campaign” in partnership with the United Nations Children Fund, UNICEF, tomorrow in Lagos.

Disclosing this  yesterday, in Lagos, the Commissioner for Women Affairs & Poverty Alleviation, Hon.(Mrs)Lola Akande, said the move was in furtherance of its commitment towards curbing all forms of violence against children, a phenomenon which she decried was increasingly becoming rife across the country.

While hailing the existing Child Rights Laws in the country, the Director, Child Protection, United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, Mrs Roseline Akinroye, in her remark, however called for a review of the various penalties, reiterating that only stiffer penalties would nip in the bud the menace more effectively.

Meantime, the state government has called on organizers of the maiden edition of AfricaBuild  fair  and exhibitions to address the menace of  collapse buildings which is traceable to poor quality and inappropriate use of building materials amongst other factors.

Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr Ganiyu Johnson, made this call during the first AfricaBuild 3 days exhibitions in Lagos which had more than 16 European and 3 African companies exhibiting their building and construction products.

Johnson, who was represented by  Mrs E. Omokore, Deputy Director, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Lagos State  said the evolution of the “Built Environment” cannot be separated from that of building materials and available technologies.
