ABA—Civil society organisation, Campaigners of Good Governance And Peace, CGGP, has called on all political parties in Abia State to warn their supporters against violent protests which in most cases claim innocent lives, caused injuries and disrupted commercial activities in Aba, the commercial nerve city of Abia and other parts of the state.

Aba, the commercial hub of the state had witnessed series of protests in the past few months occasioned by the demand by the group Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, calling on the Federal Government to release from detention their leader Mr Nnamdi Kanu.

The protests which lasted for days saw the closure of shops and markets that paralyzed commercial activities in the city.

The latest political protests which has continued for days in Aba was sparked off by the judgment of the Appeal Court in Owerri, Imo State, which invalidated last Thursday nullified the election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and declared Dr Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA governor of the state.

The judgment cancelled elections in three local government areas of the state which include Obingwa, Osisioma And Isiala Ngwa estimated to have over 300,000 number of registered voters including that of the state governor who hails from Obingwa.

The people from these areas have since the Appeal Court verdict both men, women, youths and children continued with protests in Aba, blocking roads, disrupting both movements and commercial activities and denouncing the judgment which they said de-enfranchised them..
