… promises $25bn remittance in 2015

The Leadership of the Nigerians in Diaspora organization (NIDO) Europe, Americas, Asia and Africa have thrown its weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war to save the country from economic crisis.

Addressing Vanguard in a skype interview, the spokespersons of NIDO worldwide and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Europe, Dr. George Manuwuike, with other leaders of the organization praised President Muhammadu Buhari on his efforts to introduce good governance, best practice, security and economic development with the ultimate aim to improve the standard of Nigeria and re-position the country in the global comity of nations.

He pointed out that NIDO, through its history has relentlessly contributed variously to national development and promised that the current leadership would go all out of its way to galvanise the enormous strength and resources of its members across the globe towards the successful implementation of the change agenda of the federal government.

‘‘The leadership of NIDO worldwide categorically and without any form of ambiguity informs the general public and its membership worldwide that NIDO continues to commend and support the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari on its efforts to fight corruption, introduce good governance, best practice, security and economic development with the ultimate aim to improve the standard of living of Nigeria and reposition Nigeria in the global comity of nations.

‘‘NIDO has always contributed variously to national development. The current NIDO Worldwide leadership has demonstrated commitment, loyalty, readiness, willingness and ability to galvanize the enormous numerical strength and resources of NIDO Worldwide towards the successful implementation of the change agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria and the leadership of President Buhari.

‘‘Any insinuations from any quarter that NIDO leadership is at variance with the Federal Government should be disregarded and considered a disservice to the Federal Government of Nigeria and also an attempt to discredit the noble efforts of NIDO which supports the core interests and priorities of the Federal Government.’’

According to Manuwuike, NIDO has since its establishment in 2000 remitted $25 billion to the Nigerian economy and promised to do same in 2015.

Continuing, the Spokesperson of the organization said, ‘‘NIDO intends to continue to walk its talk on the pursuance of national development by pursuing various ready-to-go projects including the rehabilitation of moribund projects, unemployment reduction projects, youth empowerment projects, insurgency victim support projects, trauma diagnostics center project, diaspora database development and data capturing projects, Safe Schools Initiative, Tele-Medicine project and establishment of the diaspora center.’’

Recall that NIDO had in July celebrated the Diaspora Day, in line with its calendar and tradition.

While appreciating the support of Nigerian government to its course, the NIDO leadership said it would amount to waste of scarce resources to duplicate and again celebrate another Diaspora Day in August at the expense of the government, but added that every Nigerian is at liberty to choose events they attend.
