The Federal Government has been commended over its decision to recover funds stolen by past government officials and leaders by the ThinkNigeria Development Initiative (TDI).

The Chairman of the TDI Board of Trustees (BOT), Hon. Roland Ajie, who gave the commendation while addressing newsmen in Abuja, described the development as encouraging.

Ajie noted that the country was going through the current economic turmoil because corrupt leaders and government officials lined their pockets to the detriment of the nation.

“Nigeria is in this sorry economic state largely due to corruption. We have bad and corrupt leaders in the past, who didn’t see anything wrong with the looting of the nation’s treasury. They cared less if our hospitals were in bad shape, they cared less if our education system was in comatose, they cared less if innocent Nigerians died every day as a result of insecurity.”

“It is really a sorry state that funds meant for development projects with expected direct  impact on the lives of the people were diverted into private pockets. Our leaders were only concerned about their families and friends and cared less about the state. And so they looted the treasury and until it dried up,” Ajie lamented.

However, he expressed hope that the new All Progressives Congress (APC) -led government would bring relief and succour to Nigerians through good governance anchored on transparency and accountability.

Ajie further expressed confidence that the planned recovery of stolen funds would go a long way towards getting Nigeria out of its present economic woods, noting that the stolen funds were in billions of dollars.
