Not every song becomes a hit even when it might have found acceptance within a section of the listening audience. Most artistes who have had one or several in their careers have been honest enough to admit it was never a thing they expected.

Here, we bring to you some crooners who have had only one hit to their names in spite of many other songs they have churned out. After ruling the airwaves with their hit singles and headlining sold-out shows, these artistes find it rather hard to recreate the magic they once produced that came out as major hits.

Soul E Baba-Soul E (2007)

He stunned music lovers with the release of his smash single Soul E Baba in 2007.Thereafter,he became a force to reckon with, collaborating with 2face and headlining a monthly music fiesta known as Live revolution concert sponsored by a telecoms company.

His career witnessed a decline when he had contractual issues with his then Collosal Records and his publicised breakup with Queen Ure didn’t help matters. Nothing was heard about him again. Fast forward to 2015, Soul E is now a  gospel artiste and a prophet. He  terrified everyone around the industry when he said he had a vision of Wizkid and Davido running into some horrific danger.

Pass me your love – A.Y com featuring Terry G (2009)

In 2009, Ayoola Johnson a.k.a Ay.com collaborated with Terry G on the song Pass me your love. Not long after, they parted ways over allegations based on the ownership of the song. Unconstrained, he moved on to releasing other singles like Jombolo, Komagbon but couldn’t make a hit song out of them. He recently reunited  with Terry G and they are cooking a new track. The question on everyone’s lips is, “Will his coming together with the Ginjah master Terry G, return him to his place of glory?”

Swo- Marvellous Benjy (2006)

Delta State-born, Benjamin Ukueja better known as Marvellous Benjy started out in music as a music producer and became celebrated when he was signed onto Kennis Music with the likes of Azadus. The Ajegunle based crooner is known for his song Swo,which became an instant hit when it was released. The Swo dance can be compared to Shoki of this present time. Since his disconnection from the record label, he hasn’t been able to make a major mark on the Nigerian entertainment scene.

My car – Tony Tetuila (2006)

Anthony Olanrewanju Awotoye popularly known as Tony Tetuila, was once a toast of music lovers with his hit track- My car featuring Pastor Goody Goody. His voice texture can’t be compared to the likes of Timi Dakolo , but he makes up for it with his charming looks, blonde hair and stage craft.

Not much has been heard about the Afro pop artiste asides from the fact that he became a politician but lost during his party’s primaries. In 2013, he returned to the scene with a song titled-African man featuring 2face, but  it failed to produce the miracle he needs to revive his career.

Waa Waa Alright– Kel (2009)

When Kel burst into the music scene, she was called the first lady of hip-hop, giving Sasha a reason to worry. Kel’s music career witnessed a plunge the moment she had contractual issues with her then record label, Clarence Peter’s Capital Hill records. She can be described as the right recipe for a showbiz brand, sexy, talented and outspoken.

In November 2012, Kel gave music another shot when she returned with Give it to me featuring W4.She had her strategies mapped out and imagined it was going to be her comeback tune but it was another misfire at a hit.Kel is currently a presenter at Cool TV,(owners of Wazobia Fm, Cool Fm and Nigeria Info) co hosting a show know as The blog.

Yawa go gas – Alariwo (1998)

The self styled cross-over King,  Alariwo released his  hit song Yawa go gas which is an Afro themed tune reminiscent of Fela Kuti. In the same vein , he released  Boju Boju,a semi hit song that appealed to Afrobeat fans. Amazingly, none of his songs have enjoyed the cross over appeal Yawa go gas has. In 2012, he made another attempt with the song Adara,featuring 9ice and Sunny Neji, but it didn’t hit the   bulls eye.

These days Alariwo can be seen anchoring events and focusing on other aspects of showbiz. His 2014 effort also ‘Dancia’ didn’t make the cut.
