Awka — THE Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Edwin Nwatalari, yesterday, advised politicians in the state, who were aggrieved over the outcome of the just concluded general elections to go to court, rather than ventilate their anger on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Speaking during the issuance of certificates of return to the 30 Anambra House of Assembly members–elect at the Commission’s headquarters in Awka, Nwatarali said nobody in the Commission, including the National Chairman, “has the powers to reverse any result declared by any returning officer.
“I want politicians to stop calling us on phone over these election issues because it won’t make any difference.
“I don’t have the powers to change the situation and it is only a competent court or tribunal that can change any result declared by the returning officer,” he said.
He expressed dissatisfaction over complaints by some politicians that they were rigged out in the poll, insisting that INEC was not the proper place to lodge such complaints.
