By Akpokona Omafuaire

WARRI—THERE was tension at Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State yesterday, as gunmen killed a member of the incoming executives of Ekpan Community Trust.

The killing halted the inauguration of the trust, which would have taken place yesterday.

The deceased, Mr. Abraham Olomu, Financial Secretary-elect, was on his way to Ekpan Community Town Hall, venue of the inauguration, when he was killed.

He was said to have died before he was rushed to a private hospital at Ekpan.

According to sources, Olomu received a phone call to come to an undisclosed location when he was shot by the suspected assailant near Ekpan market.

Meanwhile, one Mr. Sunday Leleji has reportedly died from shock over Olomu’s death.

The deaths caused tension in the community, compelling immediate postponement of the inauguration indefinitely.

Business activities were brought to a halt as angry youths took over the streets.

The timely arrival of security operatives restored normalcy, but residents are still scared for fear of reprisal attacks at night.

At press time, the remains of Olomu had been deposited in the morgue of a private hospital in Ekpan.
