ABUJA— AFTER a post-mortem of March 28 and April 11 general elections where it lost the Presidency to the Presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has concluded plans to sanction its members who allegedly indulged in anti-party activities that contributed to its defeat.

The ruling party which controlled the Presidency and the House of Representatives and the Senate for 16 years since 1999, did not only suffer presidential defeat, but also lost in its traditional states of Plateau, Niger, Kaduna, Benue, Bauchi and Jigawa.

It also became an opposition party in the Senate with 46 senators, while the APC has 60 senators, same applies to the House of Representatives.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, weekend, Deputy Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Mr Leo Ogor, said the party had taken the decision to deal with errant members who contributed to its defeat, against the backdrop that they pretended to be working for the PDP, whereas they were working for the APC to the detriment of the party.

Ogor, who represents Isoko North/ Isoko South Federal Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives, noted that the move was part of measures put in place by PDP to sanitise the party as well as reposition it.

He said those who would not be punished by the party would be those the party was unable to establish a genuine case against them.

He said: “As a party we have a constitution and definitely if you want to be a party member you must know that the party is supreme. If it can be established, but we would never compromise the principle of fair hearing.

‘’If it can be established and proved beyond reasonable doubt that Mr.  A. or Mr. B worked against the party, then I think the party would take the necessary decision in respect of that particular subject.

“But for now, what we want to look at is what is before us: why we failed so woefully, how do we address this issue, how do we take this party to a higher realm rather than for some people to start calling for the disintegration of our party.”

On calls by some persons for the sack of Alhaji Adamu Muazu-led National Working Committee, NWC, Ogor,who warned against such moves, said carrying out an act at this moment of the party’s history would undermine the concerted efforts to rebuild it.

He revealed that a committee had been saddled with the responsibility  of establishing the reason for the dismal performance of the PDP during the general elections.

He said: “It is like putting the cart before the horse. Of course, you cannot even say that these problems came from Mr. A or Mr. B. we haven’t been able to fault various individuals, everybody may have his fault or blames in this crisis but you cannot place it in any particular doorstep at this time .
