BENIN—THREE adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have been arrested and detained at the Zonal Headquarters of the police in Benin City, Edo State, over their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of ballot booklets to politicians during the April 11 House of Assembly elections in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

It was gathered that the suspects are adhoc staff from the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC. It was further learned that one of them is still under investigation, while two others have allegedly confessed to the crime.

Condemning the action of the corps members, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr Mike Igini, said: “If things like this are not punished, they will amount to reward and will be repeated. In criminology, a wrongful act that is not punished will be repeated so we must punish people.”
