IBADAN—All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, has accused some influential opposition party members of allegedly compromising some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to divert permanent voter cards, PVCs, belonging to some registered voters in the state.

The ruling party in the state, in a statement by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, queried INEC’s claim on the attainment of over 60 per cent distribution of PVCs in Oyo State when available facts indicate that many eligible and willing voters in the state were yet to obtain the cards.

He said: “The office of INEC in Ibadan appears to be comfortable with the conviction that a good number of PVCs have found their way out of the place but this also raises questions as to the veracity of the claims of over 60 per cent distribution; geographical spread of distribution and certainty that the PVCs purportedly distributed got to their rightful owners.

“In recent times, we have been inundated with reports of illegal meetings between some Electoral Officers (EOs) in certain local government areas and some opposition party figures in the state. This may have resulted in the discovery of about 500 PVCs in the hands of four persons, said to be PDP members, in Ogbomoso last Saturday. Only God knows how many PVCs that have been surrendered to unscrupulous politicians by some compromised INEC officials.”
