Yenagoa—Indigenes of Obunagha, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, host to the multi-billion naira Shell Petroleum Development Company-owned Liquefied Natural Gas, LNG, may be heading for a collision with the oil servicing firm, Daewoo, over alleged desecration of the community’s traditional stool.

The community, it was learned, is angry over the arrest and detention for 16 hours, of their paramount ruler, His Highness, Chief Godgive Apoh, by men of the Department of State Services, DSS.

According to angry indigenes of the community, the paramount ruler, known as the Amananaowei of Obunagha and his three sons, were invited by the DSS on February 16, and detained over a petition by the oil servicing firm over alleged threat and harassment.

The aggrieved indigenes of the community claimed that the arrest and detention of the paramount ruler was part of a deliberate plot to unseat him over his recent comments on the failures of SPDC to provide water despite alleged spending of over N1.3 billion on a failed water project for the community.

Though they admitted that SPDC started operation in the community in 1965 and has succeeded in providing constant electricity to the community, the company, they said had failed on the issue of needed potable water, good health centre, internal road network and employment of indigenes.
