THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senatorial candidate for Ogun East, Prince Buruji Kashamu, has said that the suit seeking to disqualify him from contesting the March 28, National Assembly elections has no substance.

Two members of the PDP in Ijebu North and Sagamu Local Government Areas of the state have filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, seeking to disqualify Kashamu from contesting the elections.

Their prayers were premised on two grounds: That Kashamu had been charged and/or convicted of some drug-related offences in the United States; and that he allegedly presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, or failed to present any.

Kashamu, in a statement, said that his lawyers will address the issues at the appropriate forum and time, urging his supporters to remain calm noting that the allegations lack substance and are of no consequence whatsoever.

He said: “I have not been charged or convicted of any offences whether here in Nigeria or anywhere else in the world. The Interpol and other relevant agencies, including the courts in the United Kingdom and Nigeria, have exonerated me of the unfounded allegations.”
