Owerri—Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, has called on Anambra women not to play second fiddle in next month’s governorship election in the state, noting that a woman as the leader of the state has performed better.
Mr Ben Onyechere, PPA’s Publicity Secretary in a statement at the weekend, said “when Etiaba became  Governor  of Anambra, it was easy to see the difference in  many ramifications, particularly security and equitable distribution of amenities, and heavens did not fall.â€
According to him, “the women are more in number and therefore are of more electoral value, bearing in mind that they have suffered so much with their children, whose future is bleak,†adding that the PPA’s governorship candidate in the state, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife “cannot afford to play with her responsibility to the people of Anambra, because it will be a big challenge to women.â€
“The men are in personality contest  rather than electioneering campaign. I am very certain and from all indications that the people will not listen to those  who are hiding behind Ojukwu because nobody has talked about the welfare of the Igbo since after the civil war, which in its self has not been explained to the Igbo till now,†he said.
He noted that “the politicians in Anambra can never have a common meeting ground because they all  relish in  the ambition  to amass more money so as to out do one another.â€
He noted that it was not “an achievement to build roads or hospital because it was the statutory responsibility of any responsible government”.
