AWKA—ANAMBRA State Action Congress, AC, candidate for February 6 governorship election, and former Governor of the state, Dr. Chris Ngige has asked his successor and incumbent, Governor Peter Obi to render account of over N350 billion.
Ngige alleged that the money was the cumulative allocations to both the state and 21 local government councils in the state from the federation account since Obi took over from him.
Ngige said Obi’s accountability has become necessary, as “what is presently on ground in the state does not correspond to the money that accrued to the state in the last four years.”
He also urged Governor Obi to make haste and render the account before the governorship election, which is less than 19 days away.
Ngige who spoke in Awka, weekend, during his campaign in Awka South Local Government Area, said that in his 33 months in the office, he got less than N40bn from the federation account, stressing that the N350bn in question does not include the state’s internally generated revenue, IGR, within Obi’s period, which he put at over N120bn.
The AC candidate, who was at four communities of Nibo, Nise, Amwobia and Awka boasted that the February 6 race “is only between Ngige and others,†noting that the problem he had with his political rivals during his stay in office was because “they said I should bring the money to share but I said No, instead I used it to work for the people. That was why we experienced the Anambra version of Biafra war when I was the Governor.â€
Ngige said that all the jobs he did as Governor amounts to only 25%, hoping that if he wins the February election, he will actualize the remaining 75%. “We have liberated the state before and this is the second liberation. All these boys thinking that INEC will write results for them are joking, they are like pool betters.
Nobody will rig election here. That day, it will be iron to iron and one must bend. I am very encouraged, so let those who want to rig come out. This is the second half of the game and the goal will be scored on February 6,†said Ngige.
