Ogun Police parade pregnant fake ASP

ABEOKUTA—AN alleged fake Assistant Superintendent of Police, 35-year-old pregnant Funmilayo Balogun, was paraded yesterday by Ogun State Police Command for fraud.

The suspect was reported to have specialized in defrauding car dealers and other unsuspecting victims in Lagos and Ogun states.

Eight other robbery suspects, a murder suspect and an Islamic cleric, accused of abduction and rape, were also paraded.

The state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, while parading the suspects at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad office, Magbon, Abeokuta, said Balogun was a serial fraudster, who had duped many car dealers.

He said her last exploit which went sour, happened in October in Abeokuta.

His words: “Balogun, sometime in October, came to Abeokuta, dressed in police uniform, and defrau-ded a car dealer in Oke-Ilewo area of a metallic ash Honda Accord Crosstour, worth over N4 million.

“Officers later traced Balogun to her base in Lagos, where her husband, Rasheed was arrested and used as a bait to arrest his wife. The suspect confe-ssed that she had sold the car for N2 million to someone in Port Harcourt.”

The suspect confessed that she had duped many car dealers in Lagos and Ogun states.

She said she was dismissed as a Corporal in 2010 after she was discovered to have forged certificates at Police Acade-my in Kano, when she went for a course to become a Superintendent of Police.
