WARRI—fire killed a store attendant at the Pessu Industrial Estate wing of Pessu Market, Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday.
The fire, which reportedly started at 11a.m. in one of the stores at the shoreline of the Pessu Market River, also gutted a poultry farm in one of the affected blocks and completely razed some stores.
The victim, simply identified as Mallam, was reportedly sleeping in one of the stores in the market when the fire engulfed the shops.
Fregene Omaweshogua, a Supervisor at one the offices, Chetans Nig Ltd, a skills training centre also affected by the fire, said: “Welding equipment, air conditioners and other office appliances in our centre were all burnt.”
When Vanguard visited the scene, fire was still blazing in the building as witnesses were seen helping themselves with the burnt chickens.
The deceased, Mallam, was said to have been evacuated for burial by his Hausa relatives at press time.
