Celebrated Nollywood director, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen has expressed satisfaction with the performance of his epic movie, “Invasion 1897” which is being distributed by Silverbird Distribution West Africa, at the box office.
The award-winning film was released at the cinemas on December 5, across the country. “The film is doing very well at the cinemas. I am excited that Nigerians are getting to love the film. It’s catching fire at the cinemas,” Lancelot said.
Symbolically, the release of the film coincided with the Igue Festival of the Benin Kingdom. The attempt of the British to traduce this festival was at the centre of the conflict explored in the film. The film is based on the invasion of the great Benin Kingdom by the British in 1897, which led the deposition of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi.
Theatre goers have been captivated by the power of the storyline of the movie, which parades an impressive cast, including Mike Omoregbe(lead actor), Segun Arinze, Rudolph Walker, Charles Inojie, Paul Obazele, Justus Esiri, Charles ‘Chucky’ Venn, and Leo Mezie,
“Invasion 1897” premiered worldwide on August 27, at the Toronto African Film and Music Festival. It was also premiered in Dallas on October 18. The movie won the award for Best Feature Film (Nigeria) at the Abuja International Film Festival 2014. It was also an official selection of the Africa International Film Festival 2014.
