NINE hundred and ninety-nine corps members of the 2014 Batch ‘C’ posted to Lagos State have been dislodged to Oyo State for their orientation exercise due to space constraints in Lagos camp.

Speaking at the opening and swearin-in held at the Ipaja camp on Monday, the State Coordinator, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi said: “A total of 3603 corps members comprising 2115 females and 1488 males have undertaken the onerous task of service to the nation.”

Adeyemi who lauded the Lagos State government for its support towards the scheme, urged government to assist in the provision of more space for corps members.

She added that after their orientation camp in Oyo state, the affected corps members will be deployed to Lagos for their primary assignment.

The three weeks orientation programme, she noted will be include skill acquisition and social activities in relation to the aims and objectives of the scheme.

“You are expected in the course of these three weeks orientation to reflect on the formative objectives of the scheme and resolve to contribute towards its achievement,” she said.

Adeyemi who urged employers to seek for the service of these corps members during the orientation through the State Coordinator said, “it is imperative that employers create adequate room for corps members and provide an enabling atmosphere for them.

Meanwhile, Governor Babatunde Fashola had earlier in his address charged the corps members to take the skill acquisition and training seriously.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Special Duty, Lagos State, Dr Wale Ahmed said: “These lectures are meant to equip you with skills that will be needed by you in the future, and as a means of addressing the scourge of graduate unemployment by enabling self employment and entrepreneurship.”
