PORT HARCOURT—Signs that Senator Magnus Abe may have concluded plans to re-contest for the Rivers South East senatorial district emerged, yesterday as his media aide, Mr Honour Sirawo in a statement, said friends of the Senator had procured interest and nomination forms for him to re-contest for the seat on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

According to the statement, Senator Abe was still consulting wide on his next line of action.

“Our attention was late December 1, 2014 drawn to the expression of interest and nomination forms procured for Senator Abe by a group of friends, associates and admirers to participate in the Rivers South-East senatorial district primaries of APC for the 2015 senatorial elections.

“We therefore, express our profound gratitude and commend these selfless friends and admirers for this show of love and sacrifice towards our political sojourn. We are aware of the physical and financial resources you have all expended in this regard.

“May, we therefore, request a little time to conclude our last round of consultations which indeed we are about concluding and urge our supporters to continue to support our great party, the APC.”

Recall that Abe was among chieftains of the party rumoured to be nursing ambition to succeed Governor Rotimi Amaechi next year but the party shut him out when it suddenly adopted Mr Dakuku Peterside as its consensus governorship candidate, an act that has divided the Ogoni where the senator hails from.

He currently represents the Rivers South East senatorial district, a position he got on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, before crossing to APC.
