Anambra : LP condemns alleged sale of voters’ cards

By  Enyim Enyim

ONITSHA—The Labour Party in Anambra State, yesterday condemned the alleged sale of voters cards by some politicians ahead of next month governorship election.

The party also called on the Inspector-General of Police to carry out a proper investigation into the matter and bring to book those involved in the criminal and undemocratic act.

Speaking to reporters at the LP Secretariat in Akwa,  Dr Andy Uba’s deputy in the governorship election, Chief Edwin Odife said  “at first it sounded incredible that some politicians had adopted a new method of rigging the election by selling voters cards at N1,000 each until the Inspector General of Police hinted us of the development at a meeting in Abuja.”

However, Odife expressed optimism that INEC would conduct a free and fair election in spite of the development and called on the electoral body to assist the police to track down the culprits.
Odife who was welcomed by the state chairman of the party, Mr Jude Ezenwafor with over 4,000 supporters of the party on arrival from Abuja, said they were confident that LP would sweep the poll come next month.

He said Uba would if elected, create employment, stop kidnapping and provide adequate security for the people of the state.

“You will recall that within the 17 days Dr Andy Uba stayed in office as Governor, he increased workers salary by N1,000 and today the APGA government of Mr Peter Obi has not impacted seriously on the welfare of workers in the state,” he said.
