ONITSHA—National Secretary of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, yesterday said there would be no automatic ticket or consensus candidate in the party during the 2015 general elections in the country.

He said every member wishing to contest any elective position must be prepared to go through primary election to be selected as the best  party’s flag bearer who would lock horns with their opponents from other political parties during the election.

Shinkafi, who spoke at Okpoko Layout in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, during the commissioning of two water projects at Okpoko and Ogbeukwu attracted by a prominent member of APGA and member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Victor Afam Ogene.

Shinkafi, who addressed party faithful and Ogene’s supporters before commissioning the water projects, maintained that the issue of consensus candidate or automatic ticket had been ruled out of the party’s system, insisting that all candidates for elective posts in the party must go through primaries to be conducted freely, fairly and transparently.

According to him, the party will follow strictly the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended in the conduct of its affairs for the 2015 elections and lauded Ogene for making the party proud in the National Assembly through his robust contributions and attraction of constituency projects that have touched the lives of the electorate in his constituency.
