The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said that it is ready to announce the successful bidders for the two Infrastructure Companies to manage Lagos and North Central region of the country in few weeks time.

Speaking at the 2014 Nigerian Advancement Award in Abuja, where he was honoured for excellence services to the nation, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Eugene Juwah said the Commission had received the bid for the Infrastructure Companies, Infracos for Lagos and North Central and in the next few weeks will announce the successful winners.

Juwah, who was represented by the Head of Corporate Communications in the Commission, Mr. Tony Ojobo said already the bids are in the process of evaluation and is being done in collaboration with a consultant.

“We have received the bid for the Infracos for Lagos and North Central. Those bid are in the process of evaluation and is being done in collaboration with our consultant.

After which the winning bidders are going to be announced. So, in the next few weeks, we are going to announce the winners to the public,” he said.

The EVC also used the occasion to announce the release of a Memorandum of Understanding for the auctioning of the 2.6Ghz spectrum band to usher in a broadband revolution that will enhance voice calls and  boost data usage in the nation’s telecoms market.

He said the MoU will be uploaded on the Commission’s website to afford prospective bidders the opportunity to send in their various bids for the concluding process to commence.“

Also, the information memorandum for the auctioning of the 2.6GHz spectrum license to usher in a revolution into the broadband process is going to be uploaded on NCC’s website. So, from Friday, the public notice is going to be at public domain.

The organizer of the award, Mr. Derick Akabota said NCC was considered worthy of the award in recognition of its role in delivering quality service to Nigeria people and to highlight the transformation work of the Commission in the telecom industry.

“The NCC, as an agency of government is worthy of commendation for its achievement in the telecoms industry in the last four years in spite of the challenges of poor service delivery.

The industry in the last four years has witnessed a lot of policy initiatives, which have continued to impact positively on the industry with multiplier effect on other sectors of the economy.
