OSHIOMHOLE’S ROAD TO VICTORY
By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—IN what appears to be a division within the Ijaw ethnic group over the second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan, a group, under the aegis of Izon Ibe Global Policy Network,, IGPN, has expressed its resolve to back Governor Adams Oshiomhole for the 2015 presidential election or any other candidate the All Progressives Congress, APC, might sponsor for the polls.
The group condemned incisive statements by some Ijaw sons, stressing the need to make comments that would unite the country irrespective of where the Presidency was ceded.
It would be recalled that youths from the South-South had last week disclosed plans to organise a one-million-man march in Akwa Ibom State, with a view to persuading Governor Oshiomhole to declare his intention to run for the 2015 Presidency.
However, the Ijaw group, in a statement by its spokesman, Ayubalayefa Dennis, expressed optimism that the APC had qualified candidates, like Oshiomhole, capable of addressing the myriad of problems confronting the nation.
He said: “Any sincere Nigerian will see that the APC states are more developed than those of other parties and there is more transparency in governance than they have in PDP states. That is why we are backing APC.
“We want to use this medium to warn some Ijaw leaders who threatened that Nigeria will break up if President Jonathan loses the presidential election. Such leaders should be informed that the era of ethnicity and regional politics is past.”
