Yenagoa—The All Progressive Congress APC in Bayelsa State may be hit by mass defection, following alleged secret meetings between its state and national officers with Governor Seriake Dickson of the state.
Those alleged to have perfected the planned defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, include former Youth Leader of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and former Interim Ex-Officio member of the APC, Mr Miriki Ebikibina and other top members of the defunct political parties under the legacy parties of the All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, the ACN and others.
Miriki, is reported to have met with senators from the state in Abuja and Governor Seriake on the possibility of being received in Edo State at a rally to be attended by President Goodluck Jonathan weekend.
It was gathered that the mass defection of the APC members in Bayelsa State was the alleged added package handed to the PDP by former Minister of External Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi, who is to be formally received at the Edo State rally alongside other defecting chieftains of the APC.
A source in the PDP, said that discussion were also on to receive the former state Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, Mr Sunday Frank-Oputu into the party following his recent resignation from the APC over alleged irreconcilable differences.
Attempts to get Miriki for his reaction proved abortive but his close associate that he (Miriki) had travelled to Benin, Edo State to take part in the preparation for the hosting of the mega rally.
But the state chapter of the APC through its Organizing Secretary, Mr Tonye Okio, argued that the party was not aware of such plan and has not been officially informed.
