Chairman, House Committee on Diaspora,  Abike Dabiri Erewa, has called for the immortalisation of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, describing her as one of Nigeria’s greatest medical warriors.

Also, former member of the House of Representatives, Ms. Temi Harriman has praised the professional diligence of the late doctor and lauded her effort in stemming a possible catastrophe in the country.

In a statement, Ms. Dabiri-Erewa said “Our dear Dr. Adadevoh has certainly stamped her feet in the sands of time as one of Nigeria’s heroines who fought like a true warrior the battle against the Ebola Virus Disease, and deserved to be immortalised by the government. The late Dr. Adadevoh, truly upheld in every sense of the word her Hippocratic oath and fulfilled it beyond expectations,” said Hon Dabiri.

“Dr. Adadevoh was selfless in the face of trials putting her nation before herself. she refused to grant the now late Mr. Patrick Sawyer access outside the hospital despite extreme pressure. in a statement she co-signed after the entire episode, it is clear that her goal was one; preventing the spread of the Ebola and subsequent deaths in Nigeria”.

Praising the professional diligence of Dr. Adadevoh, Harriman in a statement said Nigerians owed the deceased doctor deep gratitude for her sacrifice, saying that she helped to contain the disease.

“By all accounts, she was a selfless and consummate professional doctor who at great risk to her life diligently performed her duty and for the greater good. May God grant her brave soul blessed repose.

The nation and we as individuals owe her our deepest gratitude for her treatment and containment of the Ebola index patient,” she said.

Dr. Adadevoh was the first doctor to recognise the symptoms of the EVD in the late Sawyer and took deliberate efforts to stop him from leaving the hospital where he was admitted after arriving Nigeria.
