Nigeria Football Federation president, Aminu Maigari has charged the coach Manu Garba led national under-20 team to give it all and get a good result in their African Youth Championship qualifier against Tanzania on Sunday.
The team landed in Dar-es-Salam on Thursday for the first leg qualifier. It will be the first competitive match to be played by the team, which has many of the Golden Eaglets players that won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirate.
“We have total confidence in the Flying Eagles and so, we expect victory on Sunday,” Maigari said
The match is scheduled for Sunday at the 60,000-capacity National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam. According to Samm Audu, the boys are in high spirits and are ready for the game.
“The Nigeria U-20 team was received by officials of the Nigeria embassy as well as Tanzania Football Federation.
“The team have been booked into a three-star Sapphire Court Hotel in downtown Dar-es-Salaam and will train by match time, which is 4 pm local time and 2 pm Nigerian time on Sunday,” it said.
The statement said that the hotel was also hosting the Somalia basketball team who are featuring in an East and Central African championship.
It said that hosts were leaving nothing to chance to defeat Nigeria to create an upset in the qualifying matches.
“The Ngonrongoro Heroes are desperate for firepower after they failed to score both at home and away in the previous qualifier against neighbour Kenya,” the statement said.
The return leg of the match will take place in Nigeria in two weeks.
