Ahead of the PDP primary contest, much focus had been put on the prospects of the immediate past minister of police affairs, Caleb Olubolade.

The impression given by many was that Olubolade was the anointed candidate of the president and there were desperate efforts to make a linkage between Olubolade’s presence in the cabinet and an alleged friendship with President Goodluck Jonathan when Olubolade was military administrator of Bayelsa State.

However, sources say that there was no such rapport between the then administrator and the then deputy director at the Oil Minerals Producing Areas Development Commission, OMPADEC.
Olubolade according to sources was seriously taken aback when the result of the primary was announced.
He described the seven votes recorded for him as ridiuculous.

The former minister accused the party’s national officers of deliberately manipulating the whole exercise in a way that would ultimately favour Fayose.
The team was led by erstwhile governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili who in his second term was a gubernatorial colleague of Fayose’s.

But on who and how he was overwhelmed by the Fayose phenomenon, neither Oluboade nor any of the other 13 other aspirants have been able to tell., the
Olubolade was, however, silent on who and how the gang-up against him was formulated and implemented.
