Abuja — The Federal Government has said it would reposition the Nigeria Police Force to effectively battle terrorism and other crimes and criminalities.

President Goodluck Jonathan made this known, weekend, at the joint Passing Out Parade, POP, of Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police, ASPs, Course 25/2012 and Cadet Inspectors under Course 40/2012, at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

Jonathan was represented at the occasion by the Vice President, Namadi Sambo.

A statement by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Umar Sani quoted Jonathan as noting that the task of maintaining the internal security of the country rested on the police.

He said: “As the lead agency on internal security, Police must be effectively positioned to deliver on its mandate. Training and development are vital to achieving this.

“This is why this POP of 677 Police officers of the ranks of ASPs and Inspectors of Police is not only gratifying but auspicious.

The President also reiterated his administration’s commit-ment to combat the threat posed by Boko Haram sect in Abuja, yesterday.
