ABUJA—GOVERNORS elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, charged Nigerians to use this period of sallah celebration to examine themselves and reaffirm their belief in the unity of the country, regardless of ethnic or religious diversity.

This was even as the Governor Jonah Jang faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, has urged Nigerians to use the season to reflect on nation building and pray for peace and progress of the nation.

In a statement on behalf of PDP governors’ forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio,  the forum called on Muslims and non Muslims to use this period as a time of spiritual renewal to bring to the fore, personal discipline, peace and love for the general good of the nation.

The statement by the  media officer, Wilson Adewale,  Akpabio said, “as we celebrate this Eid-el-Kabir with our Muslims brothers and sisters, we must examine ourselves and not only use this period to celebrate but to also reaffirm our belief in the unity of our country regardless of our ethnic or religious diversity.”

In a related development, Governor Jang called on  Muslims to embrace and exude the peace and love in the Holy Koran as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.

In a statement by his media officer, Yakubu Kashim, Jang said, “as we celebrate, let us remember that a peaceful nation is a prime spot for progress and development; so we must continue to pray for peace and love in our nation so that we can all reap the true benefits of a peaceful and united Nigeria.”
