Am too young to be widowed, kidney patient’s wife cries out

ADO-EKITI — A 34-year-old young man, Mr. Olanrewaju Olawole, is said to need N7 million to stay alive, as he is afflicted by a kidney-related problem.

His wife, Funmi, said: “I am a young lady and this is not the right time for me to become a widow. It will be difficult for me to take care of three children with my meager salary as a teacher.”

According to her, Olawole, a video editor and father of three, had been admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo, since January.

Mrs Olawole said N2.2 million had so far been expended on dialysis.

She said the money was realised through the sales of their property, adding that he had been on life support at the FMC having fainted three times Monday, when his condition degenerated.

She said: “He was first treated for malaria at a private hospital in Akure, Ondo State capital, in January.

“Diagnosis at the FMC discovered that his two kidneys had ruptured and that he needs N7 million to do kidney transplants.”
