AWKA—INDICATIONS have emerged that politicians from Anambra North senatorial being favoured to produce the next governor of the state in 2014 are already making consultations aimed at producing a consensus governorship candidate for the zone.
The reason for the decision of a consensus candidate, it was gathered, was due to what stakeholders in the area considered as the unwieldy number of governorship aspirants from Anambra North senatorial zone.
At the last count, no fewer than 14 persons had indicated interest in the governorship race, a development many people in the zone, said may deny the zone the office of governor.
At a meeting weekend held at Aguleri, six governorship aspirants from the zone were said to have agreed to step down for Senator Emma Anosike, who is among those eying the seat in 2014.
The reason given by those who want to step down for Anosike was that he is the most experienced of all those interested in the race, having been a member of House of Representatives, a Senator and deputy governorship candidate at various times since the emergence of the present democratic dispensation.
A source at the meeting said that though some participants described Anosike as a controversial person, others saw him as the only person who can garner the block votes from the zone during the election, in addition to having the financial resources to prosecute his campaign.
