The Akilo family has appealed to the Lagos State Police Command to intensify investigation into the mysterious disappearance of its member, one Abass Akilo, since November last year, with a view to unraveling the circumstance behind the disappearance and bringing those behind it to book.
The missing relative identified as Abass Akilo, reportedly left his residence at 5 Oshodi street, in Majidun area of Ikorodu, for Ijebu-Ode, without any word from him since then.
In a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Manko, the family, alleged that its missing relative’s neighbour identified as Sikiru, conspired with others to kidnap 69-year-old Abass.
Although there has been no phone call where ransom was demanded from the Akilos , which would have suggested that Abass was kidnapped, but lawyer to the family in the petition, stated that Siriku was the only person Abass informed about his journey and that he was also, the only person he (Abass) called to inform that he had reached his purported destination.
The petition read in part: “Sikiru has wittingly confided in one of our clients’ family members that he knows the whereabouts of Mr Akilo and that the family should take steps towards mobilizing a ransom whenever the suspected kidnappers come calling.
To us, this statement from Sikiru gravely indicts him and we believe that the said Sikiru might be one of the kidnappers who abducted Mr Abass Akilo, with the sole purpose of extorting our clients. It is in the light o f the foregoing, that we hereby , appeal to you to investigate and unravel the circumstances of this case that is shrouded in secrecy”
