LAGOS —THE Lagos State Government has warned motorists against using unpainted buses for commercial purpose in the state, saying any one caught would have his or her vehicle impounded according to the existing law of the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, disclosed this during a facility tour of Ikeja.
According to Opeifa, the measure became necessary following recent discovery that some motorists use unpainted vehicles for commercial purpose.

He said some of the undesirable elements were fond of using unpainted vehicles to perpetrate evil by robbing unsuspected passengers of their valuables, adding that it is very difficult to track down such suspects.

Determined to combat the trend, Opeifa, threatened that henceforth any motorists caught would have his or her vehicle impounded and taken for prosecution and if found guilty, the offence will attract N50,000 among other requirements.
On the traffic lights, Opeifa explained that the exercise was part of the state effort to reduce the perennial traffic in different parts of the state, while the signage is an avenue of educating drivers about where to turn and how to use the road effectively.

He noted that major motorists in the state commit traffic offenses because they do not understand properly various road signs.

Some of the completed project, Opeifa listed to include: Town Planning Road, from Anthony Oke to Palm Grove, Amadu Bello Way, Billingsway among others while the Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way is to commence soon.

He said that before the construction on Mobolji Bank Anthony take place, they will give the general public five to seven days public enlightenment on what the state government is about to do on the road and will also put signage to direct the motorist.

Opeifa assured that the state government would ensure that all the strategies embarked upon by the state government become realities at the end of the day as government would not rest until the situation of traffic is brought to its barest minimum in the state.
