KEBBI – House of Representatives Committee on Works inspecting the state of federal roads in Kebbi State, Wednesday, threatened to summon the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, to appear before it if the palliative measures on the Jega-Yauri-Kebbi road were not executed by January 2013.
The Reps, who invited the site engineer to explain why there was only one grader working on the 60km road, could not hide their discontent and disappointment on the work done so far on the border road to Niger Republic.
The site Engineer, Mr. Ishaba Attai, who could not provide any satisfactory excuse for the poor state of work, was ordered to fully re-mobilise to site or get the contract terminated.
Leader of the team and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Works, Mohammed Wudil, had told both Federal Ministry of Works officials and the contractor that the lawmakers were not satisfied with what they had seen on ground.
He said: “We are not satisfied with what we have seen on this site and we will invite the minister to explain if by January 2013 this palliative measure is not completed.”
Musa Garba, a member of the team, also told the site engineer that the House would resist any attempt to toy with the project, being a constituency project.
Attai had said there were other graders on the road; but none was seen by the inspectors.
The contract, which was awarded in 2011 to be completed in January 2013, at N.9 billion, had already suffered a time lapse of 211.11 percent.
The contractor, according to the report of the state engineers’ representative, had been fully paid for the job.
