AWKA – THE Anambra State National Assembly tribunal headed by Justice G. Kaigama, yesterday, upheld the election of Dr. Andy Uba as the senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone.

Uba contested the election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The judgment put to an end, the protracted legal battle over the senatorial zone between Uba and Chuma Nzeribe of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

Nzeribe had based his challenge of Uba’s victory on  what he considered anomalies in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area; Uri, Osumenyi and Ihiala, which he claimed were invalid  due to corrupt practices, falsification, inducement,  over voting  and non compliance with the Electoral Acts of 2010

The tribunal held that  the petitioner failed to establish the allegations of corrupt practices, falsification and over voting leveled against Uba in the re-run election. The Tribunal  resolved the two contending issues formulated for determination against the petitioner and awarded the cost of N50,000 each to the three respondents.

An elated Uba, in his reaction, said : I am  grateful to God because he is the one that  helped me win the election in the first place. I thank the good people of my constituency for standing by me through all these litigations. This is a victory for democracy.”

In his reaction to the judgment, counsel to Nzeribe, Mr  Okwy Ejezi, said they will appeal against the judgment.
