NGO kicks against creation of new security outfit for N-Delta

By Ifeyinwa Obi

LAGOS—The Maritime Industry Advocacy Initiative (MAIN), has kicked against the proposed creation of another security agency supposedly to enforce peace and reduce violence in Niger Delta.

The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), in a statement in Lagos, described the plan by the presidency to create a post-amnesty security outfit for the oil rich Niger Delta as an uninformed decision and one that is capable of creating confusion and conflict.

In a statement signed by MAIN’s executive director, Mr. Sesan Onileimo, the group advised President Umaru Yar’ Adua to seek sufficient advice and guidance in the quest to ensure that maritime,  oil and gas installations are protected.
