Delta to establish10 fish, cassava-processing firms – Uduaghan

GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, weekend, said that 10 Fish and Cassava processing industries would be established by his government before the end of the year to create more employment for Deltans.

Briefing reporters in Warri, he said more than 17,000 Deltans have been offered employment since 2007 when he assumed office in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, civil service, health, teaching, sports sectors.

According to him, “The four fish processing plants have just been incorporated with the stakeholders in the fishing business, while the six cassava processing companies would be inaugurated in the next two months”

Uduaghan, who spoke on kidnapping, employment, environment and other issues affecting the state, dismissed the suggestion that kidnapping was worst in Delta state, saying, “Delta is not the worst in terms of security issues, but that is not to say that we do not have security issues.”

What we have now is challenge of oil bunkering on the waterways, we are giving support to the Federal Government and on land, we will continue to fight armed robbery and kidnapping”.

His words, “Kidnapping is occurring in every state, we have put up a lot of strategies to fight it. But just that the one of Delta state seems to have been targeted of recent at government functionaries and their relations”.

The governor, however, said that unemployment could not be an excuse of criminality
