PRNigeria has commenced the third cohort of its 2026 Young Communication Fellowship, gathering ten emerging communicators from across Northern Nigeria for an intensive two‑week training programme in Kano.
Organised by Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), the fellowship, which began on October 5, 2026, is part of PRNigeria’s effort to nurture the next generation of strategic communicators, journalists, public relations practitioners and digital media innovators.
Classroom instruction is blended with hands‑on practical sessions in strategic communication, public relations, journalism, fact‑checking, social media management and the use of AI in modern newsrooms. Participants received copies of one of the recommended books, “Aren’t We All PR People?” by Ahmad Balarabe Said.
At the opening session, PRNigeria CEO, Yushau Shuaib, said the Kano cohort follows earlier editions held in Kwara and Abuja in August and September. He explained that the fellowship goes far beyond traditional reporting, exposing participants to developmental, investigative and solutions journalism, alongside core public relations competencies.
The 2026 fellowship, themed “Ethical Communication in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” is in partnership with the Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation (AAG). Shuaib reaffirmed his firm’s commitment to raising young media professionals capable of navigating emerging technologies while upholding ethics, accuracy and responsibility.
On the second day of the programme, Chairman of IMPR, Professor Sule Ya’u Sule, shared insights from his decades‑long experience in public relations across Nigeria’s public and private sectors. He emphasised the central role of journalism in effective PR practice and urged participants to guard their reputation as they build their careers.
“Protect your name, protect your integrity,” Prof. Sule told the fellows. “Loyalty and professionalism will determine how far you go in this field. Take advantage of this opportunity to build yourself.” He encouraged participants to fully engage in the practical exercises and make use of the fellowship’s resources to sharpen their skills.
One of the participants, Fatima Mahuta, stated that the sessions were “enlightening and practical,” pushing her beyond limits and exposing her to new dimensions of communication work. Another participant, Nasir Sabo, thanked Prof. Sule for sharing valuable principles he said would guide the fellows throughout their careers.
The PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship has become one of the country’s most recognised youth‑focused media development programmes, offering structured mentorship, hands‑on training and exposure to industry leaders.
The Kano cohort continues the organisation’s mission to strengthen ethical communication, digital innovation and professional excellence among young Nigerians. The training will run for two weeks, culminating in practical assessments, project presentations and certification for all participants.
