The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education, Rep. Fuad Kayode Laguda, has been conferred with the prestigious Fellowship Award of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, national development and humanity.

The lawmaker, who represents Surulere I Federal Constituency of Lagos State, received the honour on Saturday, June 27, 2026, while he was formally decorated with the Fellowship on Monday, June 29.

The Fellowship of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa is one of the institution’s highest honours, awarded to distinguished individuals who have demonstrated selfless service and made remarkable contributions to the growth of the institution, national development and humanity.

Reacting to the honour, Laguda described the award as a recognition of the collective efforts of everyone he has worked with in advancing education, particularly technical and vocational education in Nigeria.

“I consider this award not merely as a personal achievement but as a recognition of the collective efforts of all those with whom I have worked in advancing education, particularly technical and vocational education in Nigeria,” he said.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s polytechnic education system through effective legislation and policy support.

According to him, polytechnic education remains a critical driver of national development, innovation, entrepreneurship and economic transformation, stressing that Nigeria’s economic future depends on equipping young people with practical skills and technological competencies.

“As Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Polytechnics and Higher Technical Education, I have always believed that polytechnic education remains a critical driver of national development, innovation, entrepreneurship and economic transformation. Our nation’s quest for sustainable growth depends largely on our ability to equip young people with practical skills and technological competencies that meet the demands of the modern world,” he stated.

Laguda said the recognition has further strengthened his resolve to champion policies and legislative initiatives that will enhance the funding, growth and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s polytechnic system.

He called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to build institutions capable of producing highly skilled graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the country’s socio-economic development.

“We must continue to build institutions that produce skilled graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development,” he added.
