The Legislative Arm of Warri South Local Government Council has passed a resolution declaring that there are no Ijaw aboriginal communities in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The resolution was adopted during an open plenary session convened to deliberate on concerns arising from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ongoing ward delineation exercise.

At the session, representatives of protesting Itsekiri and Urhobo youths were invited to present their positions on the ward delineation process and its implications for the local government.

Following the deliberations, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi, moved a motion for the adoption of the resolution, which was seconded by Hon. Eghere Dumetotor.

The motion was subsequently put to a vote, with 18 lawmakers supporting the resolution and one voting against.

The resolution comes amid ongoing debates and differing views among stakeholders over issues of community identity and the implementation of INEC’s ward delineation exercise in parts of Delta State.
