Thirty-one students of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo, have benefited from a ₦10,652,192 scholarship fund donated by diaspora and partner organisations.

The Osun Development Forum (ODF), Texas, awarded ₦100,000 each to 21 students, while the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) supported 10 students with ₦855,500.

Speaking at the award ceremony held at UNIOSUN, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, described the event as an important academic tradition that promotes excellence and rewards merit among students.

He said the initiative reflects the importance of partnerships in sustaining higher education, noting that government alone cannot fully fund universities.

“Government alone cannot adequately fund universities. Partnerships like this are essential to sustaining quality education and encouraging excellence among students,” he said.

Prof. Adebooye commended both ODF and WAPCo for their continued support for education and student development.

President of ODF, Alhaji Kazeem Adetunji, said the organisation, a diaspora-based socio-cultural group in the United States, has supported development initiatives in Osun State over the years, particularly in education.

He noted that the group has provided scholarships to students across Nigerian universities and continues to invest in community development projects.

ODF also highlighted its broader interventions, including water projects and medical outreach programmes aimed at improving welfare in communities across Osun State.
